Many times, the doubt arises between the differences of one and the other. We will try to explain it in a very simple way and thus be able to make the decision of which one to use with your product.
In principle, all packaging decomposes over the years (some will take months and others years).
Recyclable Packaging is considered when this packaging can be collected, processed, and returned to be used as raw material or new product. It is highly dependent on the policies of each country or region in terms of recyclability. These policies are adapted to the infrastructure of each country or region to collect, separate, and recycle the material.
A Biodegradable container is one that degrades naturally because of a biological action of microorganisms (Fungi, Bacteria…). They degrade faster than materials decomposed by chemical or physical processes.
Compostable packaging is very similar to biodegradable packaging, but with the difference that when it decomposes, it releases nutrients and therefore helps the growth of trees and plants.
